Tongli River

Today the team visited Tongli River town on the way out of Suzhou.

They visited the ancient gardens, rode the canals in a gondola (Suzhou is know as the Venice of the East) and then sat down for lunch in a tea house at the end of town.  As per usual the food was incredible.

The circus was the highlight of our last night in China and is sure to be a talking point for days to come.

Today we tour Shanghai, pick up some last minute shopping and catch the Maglev to the airport, again another highlight of the trip as it travels at a speed of 400k.

Check out the pictures of our Thursday on this blog.

Xingchen Gardens

Tuesday the team attended Xingchen Gardens where they were reunited with Kevin, Jenny and Jason and their teacher Julia who attended Huntly 3years ago.

Xingchen Gardens is a school of 1800 students and has classes from Prep-Year 6. It is an extremely popular school in Suzhou and has a waiting list of students who wish to attend. Classroom house 50 students in classrooms not much bigger then those at Huntly the school site is slightly smaller than Huntly and the buildings are 5 storys high with Prep classes on the bottom floor and Year 5/6 on the top. No lifts in sight the stairs are the only option.

Today’s pictures and movie show the team engaged in lessons at Xingchen. They were also given a tour of the school and you can see classes dumplings, these were eaten at our break time with all agreeing they were delicious.

At recess the team engaged in a friendly soccer match with the students of Xingchen. Jack and Boden held the Australian backline together roved the field picking up kicks at will. The game ended in a nil all draw and was throughly enjoyed by all concerned.

On Thursday we head back to Shanghai stopping off at Tongli Town along the way.

Check out the photos and movie of our day at Xinchen Gardens on this blog.

Xingwan School

Today we spent the morning at Xingwan  School and what an exciting experience it was for the Team China kids.  We toured the school which houses 3500 students in four buildings of five stories.

The kids learnt to dance and experienced a classroom concert.  They had the opportunity to join in recess with the students from Xingwan.

They were then treated to a huge banquet in Principal Hongs’ Dining Room.

Jack Wilson has had two banquets  with Kevin’s family over the past couple of evenings.  Kevin stayed with the Wilson family two years ago.  This was a great experience for Jack and shows how much the families of Suzhou value our Chinese Exchange program.

Tomorrow we are off to Xinggchen Garden School.

Suzhou

The team have moved to Suzhou and are looking forward to visiting schools tomorrow.

Jack is out for a meal tonight with Kevin who stayed at Huntly 2 years ago he is having a fantastic time.

Weekend in China

After a hectic weekend in Shanghai Stephanie, Skye, Reese Jack and Boden are heading off to Suzhou today.

So far they have mastered the MET subway and can find their way around Shanghai as good as any local.

The Yu gardens were a big hit as was the Jinguang buddist temple.

Jack says he’s enjoying every moment.

Standing on the glass floor at the Pearl Tower 351 metres above the ground was a heart stopping event for some.

The virtual reality roller coaster was a white knuckle ride.

All five have learnt to bargin hard at the market.

Steph is looking forward to pretty much everything today, as we wait for our bus to Suzhou.

Everyone else is looking forward to the Suzhou experience.
